Canyon Rim Cares Day of Service Brings Community Together

On July 18, 2026, UServeUtah and community members came together for the Canyon Rim Cares Day of Service to support local organizations and create resources for people and communities across the Salt Lake Valley.

Volunteers spent the day working on hands-on service projects benefiting students, veterans, refugees, families, and individuals experiencing homelessness. The event also gave participants an opportunity to connect with local organizations and learn more about the work happening in their own communities.

Together, volunteers made a measurable impact through projects supporting organizations including the Jordan River Commission, Utah Refugee Connection, Raise the Future, the VA Hospital, The Road Home, the International Rescue Committee, and Heal Ex.

Service in Action

Volunteers contributed to a variety of projects throughout the event, including:

  • 4,000 literacy game kits to benefit second-grade students in Granite School District
  • 1,200 river cleanup kits to support groups completing projects along the Jordan River through the Jordan River Commission
  • 100 essential supply kits for refugees through Utah Refugee Connection
  • 100 school supply kits for children in foster care through Raise the Future
  • 100 food essential bags for veterans experiencing food insecurity through the VA Hospital
  • 100 household essential kits for individuals transitioning from homelessness into more permanent housing through The Road Home
  • 20 food preparation kits for refugees through the International Rescue Committee
  • Nearly $1,000 raised to support two Canyon Rim families displaced by the July 12 house fire
  • 100 letters written to veterans thanking them for their service
  • 20 blankets made for individuals escaping human trafficking through Heal Ex
  • A 70-foot community mural painted by more than 100 community members, designed and executed by local artist Kate Scribner

Each project provided a different way for volunteers to contribute, from assembling essential supplies to creating resources for students and families. Together, these efforts helped local organizations meet community needs and provided volunteers with a hands-on way to serve.

Canyon Rim Cares Day of Service is an example of what can happen when community members, local organizations, and volunteers work together. The time and effort contributed by each volunteer helped strengthen organizations and extend their ability to serve people throughout the Salt Lake Valley.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered, donated, organized projects, and helped make Canyon Rim Cares Day of Service possible. Your service helped turn a single day of volunteering into resources and support for communities across the valley.

What Are United in Service Projects?

UServeUtah's United in Service projects bring communities together through meaningful volunteerism. These projects help people grow personally, build connections, and address specific community needs. We achieve this by working closely with local partners to create each project.

If you're ready to experience this firsthand, we invite you to join us! We host these impactful projects quarterly throughout the state, giving you consistent opportunities to contribute. You can be the first to know about an opportunity near you by signing up for our newsletter.

Beyond volunteering, you can also propose a project idea for your community.
