Cedar City Hosts First United in Service Project

UServeUtah hosted its first United in Service project in Cedar City. This effort began with Governor Cox's Disagree Better program with the National Governors Association, which champions the idea that service unites people regardless of their differences.

Our first project came from Cedar City residents who wanted to help update and improve Memorial Grove Park. Mayor Gerald Sherratt had previously requested the creation of the Cedar City Memorial Grove, allowing the public to donate a tree in memory of a loved one. In recent years, the park needed attention. UServeUtah collaborated with the City Parks Department and the community, bringing 60 volunteers out on a Tuesday night!

Volunteers of all ages from all over the community came together. They planted nine trees (replacing ones that had died) and spread hundreds of yards of mulch throughout the grove. We also had a station where volunteers made fleece blankets for Cedar City's Meals on Wheels program and wrote or colored cards to welcome refugees resettling in Utah.

What are United in Service projects?

UServeUtah's United in Service projects bring communities together through meaningful volunteerism. These projects help people grow personally, build connections, and address specific community needs. We achieve this by working closely with local partners to create each project.

If you're ready to experience this firsthand, we invite you to join us! We host these impactful projects quarterly throughout the state, giving you consistent opportunities to contribute. You can be the first to know about an opportunity near you by signing up for our newsletter.

Beyond volunteering, you can also propose a project idea for your community.
