Larry McClurg honored with AmeriCorps Seniors Service Award

Larry McClurg received the Utah Senior Corps Service Award in April 2020.  Larry serves with the Davis County RSVP program as a volunteer with the Eccles Wildlife Center on Farmington Bay and has been a volunteer there for the past 15 years where he has brought his knowledge of the outdoors and his love of the wetland community together.  Eccles Wildlife Center Executive Director Billy Fenimore shared this about Larry’s service: “The results of his many years of volunteer service have sparked many generations of young people desiring to explore more of our natural world.  In the process, Larry has inspired and educated many other volunteers about the wetlands of the Great Salt Lake.”  Larry uses his teaching experience to patiently guide the community through the tangles of cattails and marshy water.  He has been a part of helping the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources and the Eccles Wildlife Education Center transform into a community space where people come together to learn about all things wild.

Thank you for your service and congratulations, Larry!  We appreciate your contributions to the community and the environment in Davis County.

About RSVP

RSVP is one of the largest volunteer networks in the nation for people 55 and over. RSVP volunteers use the skills and talents they’ve learned over the years, or develop new ones while serving in a variety of volunteer activities in their community.  These opportunities may include delivering home-delivered meals, tutoring and mentoring youth, renovating homes, preparing for and responding to natural disasters, and protecting the environment.  Volunteer commitments range from a few hours to 40 hours per week.

The Davis County RSVP program run by the Davis County Health Department is one of eight RSVP programs in Utah.  To get involved with a Senior Corps program in your area, you can visit this website.
