Sandra Christensen has been volunteering for Salt Lake County Aging and Adult Services for 25 years doing health screenings for seniors at Salt Lake County Senior Centers. Sandra brought her expert knowledge as a registered nurse by providing blood pressure and blood glucose screenings at various senior centers and housing units. Sandra spent an average of 10 hours per week volunteering for our seniors. In past years, she would help administer flu shots to homebound seniors in their homes and provide health screenings at health fairs as requested. Autumn Pham, the previous nurse coordinator, has said that Sandra was usually the first volunteer to call to make sure she was on the list to help provide homebound clients flu shots.

Sandra has been an exceptional volunteer nurse and an asset to the program. She not only provides the health screenings but is also always willing to lend a listening ear to those who may need it the most. Her open heart and love of serving others are endless. The senior participants see Sandra’s enthusiastic and caring spirit when she visits them. She shares her expertise with the seniors on how to better take care of and improve their health. The improvements of the seniors’ health conditions are Sandra’s greatest joy. Sandra has had her own share of challenges and health concerns but still makes time to serve her community.

Sandra’s contribution helps to provide preventive health measures to the senior community within Salt Lake County. Thanks to Sandra, thousands of seniors have been served by her compassion and knowledge over the last 25 years. Sandra Christensen was nominated by Marianne Christensen of Salt Lake County Aging and Adult Services. She was presented with the Power of Service Award on July 17th, 2018.
