UServeUtah hosted a United in Service project at Recapture Reservoir in Blanding, Utah on April 18. Working with Blanding City and the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) Monticello Field Office, we brought together 25 volunteers, who helped restore the area and get it ready for the upcoming summer season.
Even with an unexpected snowstorm, volunteers remained committed. They worked through tough conditions until the weather finally forced an early stop. The group accomplished a great deal by picking up trash, removing large debris, and building picnic tables. Their efforts will improve the reservoir's features for future visitors.
Volunteers traveled from across Grand and San Juan Counties, from Aneth to Moab. They represented a wide range of ages, from 4 to 71 years old. Some highlights of our volunteers include:
- A 4-year-old took part in her very first organized volunteer project.
- Two 71-year-old women joined in. One, a solo RVer, noticed the effort and quickly jumped in to help.
- Three local high school students volunteered through their National Honor Society chapter. One of them shared how rare it is to find service opportunities in the area and how excited he was to take part.
Community members were warm, welcoming, and grateful for the organized effort. Both BLM and Blanding City staff expressed enthusiasm for planning another cleanup when the weather improved.
What are United in Service projects?
UServeUtah's United in Service projects bring communities together through meaningful volunteerism. These projects help people grow personally, build connections, and address specific community needs. We achieve this by working closely with local partners to create each project.
If you're ready to experience this firsthand, we invite you to join us! We host these impactful projects quarterly throughout the state, giving you consistent opportunities to contribute. You can be the first to know about an opportunity near you by signing up for our newsletter.
Beyond volunteering, you can also propose a project idea for your community.
