Marilyn Bascom is an amazing example and never tires of offering help to those around her. Marilyn was honored with the Utah Americorps Senior Service Award for her service as a Foster Grandparent in Utah County.
Marilyn has been a Foster Grandparent since 2015. The teachers and students fell in love with Grandma Marilyn from day one. Utah County’s Foster Grandparent program instantly began getting such positive comments about the great impact she was having with the students she served. “I had a student who was a very low reader when she came to 2nd grade. With the help of Grandma Marilyn, she is now on grade level! Thank you Grandma Marilyn.”
“Marilyn is vital in my writing time. She helps two of the students who not be able to write at all. They are able to get their ideas on paper because of her.”
“Marilyn has been working with a student who is selective mute and did not know her alphabet. She is also ELL and a resource student. Marilyn has helped this student develop self-esteem and make great progress this year.”
“Marilyn has worked with one of my students who was originally on “online student” due to COVID. This student was well below in reading and hated school. After Marilyn started working with her, she immediately became a smiley, happy student. Her reading improved and she is now on grade level. All thanks to Marilyn, give her a standing ovation!”
Marilyn is punctual, dependable, dedicated, concerned, kind, gentle, caring, patient, pleasant and just plain amazing. She is everything we could ever ask for as a Foster Grandparent volunteer and we are happy to be able to honor the request of her teacher to recognize her greatness.
